Smart City in companies: radars made in Navarra

We participated in the CEN 7 days Newsletter of the Confederación Empresarial Navarra talking about the virtues of Smart Cities and how this technology can be applied to industry.

Nowadays the Smart City concept is becoming more and more known, but do we know the impact it has on our lives? Pamplona is part of the network of smart cities in Spain, RECI, so it is possible to see a wide variety of sensors in our capital (environmental, pollution, counting…). But, like other small cities, we should look for inspiration in successful cases that are managing a smart transition in large cities such as Barcelona, Singapore, Stockholm or Amsterdam with cases applied to smart traffic monitoring (counting, light signalling, etc.). (counting, light signals, educational radars…) or the roadmap of the city of Leipzig (Germany) which aims to facilitate the transition towards a carbon neutral city by 2050. Great examples that are materialising thanks to sensors and smart devices that are transforming our cities into living entities.

From Navarra we have the company Anteral, whose uRAD radar area has participated in projects such as counting cyclists in Pamplona, traffic monitoring on motorways in Indonesia, speed control in South Korea and monitoring of boats in canals in Holland, among others. All of them with the aim of, using cutting-edge radar-based technology, to manage the data collected, enable decision making and thus support and enhance the improvement of the thus supporting and enhancing the improvement of the quality of life directly affecting citizens.

It also collaborates with international companies such as AIRBUS, THALES, INDRA… with which it participates in R&D projects and final developments in the maintenance, design and development of antenna technology, passive components and radar applied to the most diverse sectors, from the Space sector to Smart Cities.

But what if we were to use this technology where we spend most of our time? Applying radar to the industrial sector, to our companies, both offices and warehouses, where we can benefit from the data obtained and thus increase the effectiveness and efficiency of internal management.

The flexibility of this technology allows us to extrapolate and apply it in:

  • Asset and Equipment Monitoring.
  • Inventory and Logistics Management
  • Environmental and Safety Monitoring
  • Energy Management
  • Security and Access Control
  • Waste and Recycling Management
  • Productivity Improvement and Working Conditions

In large installations we could continue to apply, as is done in cities, traffic sensors (trucks, pallet trucks, workers, …), but applied to the day-to-day life of a company. (trucks, pallet trucks, workers, …) but applied to the daily life of a company.

It is important to note that, when implementing sensors in industrial environments, it is important to consider aspects such as the data security, interoperability of systems and integration with existing processes.

The technology developed by Anteral takes these aspects into account. Furthermore, it has the advantage that this type of radar sensor does not require the use of cameras to obtain objective information, but allows it to be obtained by means of radio waves, being a technology that does not suffer the restrictions of data protection laws (e.g.: recording people directly) and guarantees privacy at all times.

This technology is CE and Fiware certified.
